Domestic Abuse Tips
Ask neighbors to call the police if they see your abuser nearby. Show your neighbors a photo of the abuser and tell them about your Order of Protection. Ask someone to screen your telephone calls at home and at work. Have someone escort you to your car or walk with other people if possible.
How Domestic Abuse Affects the Brain
In people who have experienced trauma, the prefrontal cortex will have a hard time regulating fear, along with other strong emotions. This can lead to frequent feelings of panic and anxiety, as well as dysfunctional reactions to situations that are not harmful, or irrational fear.
